conduire = to drive

je conduis

There are three types of regular verbs (verbs that follow a pattern.)  

1.  -ER

2.  -IR

3.  -RE

For -RE verbs, drop off the -re to get the stem, then add:

je -S

tu -S

il/elle/on -

nous -ONS

vous -EZ

ils/elles -ENT

Try the Hannah Montana -RE verb song.  (C’mon . . . I know you want to!)  It’s to the tune of “Best of Both Worlds”:

You get the S, S, nothing

ONS, EZ, then rock out ENT

You get the S, S, nothing

Put it all together, then you’ve got the best -RE verbs!

Here are some common -re verbs:

attendre – to wait (for)

entendre – to hear

vendre – to sell

perdre – to lose

descendre – to descend/to go down

répondre – to respond/to answer

rendre – to return/to give back

rendre visite – to visit a person

Sing the verb to the tune of “Alouette”:

tu fais

il fait, elle fait, on fait

nous faisons

vous faites

ils font, elles font

faire–to do, faire–to make, faire–to make, faire–to do

Here are some useful expressions using the verb FAIRE:

Faire attention (à) = to pay attention to

Faire des courses = to run errands; to shop for food

Faire du shopping = to shop (for clothes, cds, etc.)

Faire la cuisine = to cook

Faire un voyage = to go on a trip

Faire une valise = to pack a suitcase

Faire une promenade = to go for a walk

Faire la connaissance (de) = to make the acquaintance (of)

Faire les devoirs = to do homework

Faire un match (de basketball, de football, etc.) = to play a game

Faire du progrès = to make progress

Faire des projets = to make plans

Faire de la natation = to do some swimming

Faire de la voile = to sail

Faire de la planche à voile = to windsurf

Faire du camping = to camp

Faire du ski = to ski/do some skiing

Faire du ski nautique = to water ski

Faire de l’alpinisme = to mountain climb

**Faire + partitive (de la, du, de l’, des, pas de) + instrument/sport/pastime/school subject
